A 4-HOUR EMBODIED, EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOP

Care in Chaos: Therapist Sustainability Through Turbulent Times

In an era of increasingly turbulent social, political, and legal waters, therapists and practice owners face unprecedented challenges to their sustainability and wellbeing. This workshop equips mental health professionals with the tools to navigate these uncertain times by combining stable foundations with flexible systems—creating a metaphorical "houseboat" capable of weathering any storm.

Rather than succumbing to fear or burnout, participants will learn pattern recognition skills that transform perceived chaos into manageable, predictable patterns that can be anticipated and addressed proactively. This workshop deconstructs three critical patterns that undermine therapist wellbeing:

  1. the conventional care model that burns out providers

  2. the suppression of creativity during crisis

  3. the false dichotomy between self-care and communal care

Participants will leave with:

  • Pattern recognition skills to reduce nervous system overwhelm

  • Practical legal and business strategies for practice sustainability

  • Tools to protect and nurture creativity as an antidote to predictable harm cycles

  • Frameworks for authentic self-in-communal care that balance vulnerability with boundaries

  • Somatic practices for grounding during turbulent times

Sarah Buino and Mishara D. Winston combine their complementary expertise to help therapists navigate increasingly unprecedented times. Perfect for solo practitioners, group practice owners, and clinical staff seeking not just to survive but to maintain wellbeing during social upheaval. This workshop centers therapist sustainability and empowerment, replacing conventional burnout models with creative, communal frameworks that honor both personal needs and professional responsibilities.

When: Friday, June 13, 2025 | 10am - 2pm CT

Cost: $155 includes 4 CEs and lifetime access to the recording.

  • We are called to the helping profession due to our own experience with addiction, trauma, and other difficult life circumstances. In this field, we are encouraged to practice self-care, but not often encouraged to take a deeper look at what comprises “wellness” and what gets in the way. Now more than ever, we must investigate our own wellness so we can continue to support our clients. Professionals are expected to know the latest evidenced-based tools to support clients, but are we practicing what we preach? This is not a fluffy self-care seminar, but rather a call to action designed to challenge participants to step into their own healing with courage. In order to thrive in this field, it's crucial we shine a light on what really matters when it comes to caring for ourselves and the barriers that get in the way of being our best selves. This seminar will invite participants to reflect on their own self-care, their relationship to the larger socio-political landscape, and how each of these areas impacts client outcomes.

Learning to be in right relationship with power supports therapists to harness their inherent power responsibly, fostering a nurturing environment conducive to client growth and healing. Join us for an immersive workshop experience that delves into the intricacies of power dynamics, encompassing five distinct types of power and the nuances of up-power and down-power interactions. Through engaging activities and heartfelt discussions, participants will embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring the intersection of power and compassion in therapeutic practice.
